Installing Adobe Reader

Users around the world have reported that Adobe does not seem to be able to provide a correct download for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (21.007.20099) in 64-bit version. Instead of making Acrobat Reader DC available, Acrobat DC is made available for download.

The new 64-bit Reader is designed to automatically detect the signature and adapt the application environment and features based on the signature.”

This is an issue with the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2021 software being recognized as Adobe Acrobat DC 2021 (more specifically version 21.007.20099). The changes were made by Adobe in terms of when they created the new 64-bit installer package for Adobe Reader.

There is a way to get the product recognized correctly, which is to use the installer provided by Adobe support, after performing a clean uninstall of Reader, and updating the product by the patched installation.

These are good governance practices for software assets or Software Asset Management SAM for your company.

For products that have not yet been updated, we can follow Adobe's documentation, which is in this link, and disable automatic updates, which is turned on by default for all Adobe Reader installations.

What is PDF, format used by Adobe Reader

PDFs move the world. Adobe invented the Portable Document Format (better known as PDF) to securely display and share documents regardless of software, hardware or operating system, and now your most important official work or documents depend on it.

PDF is now an open standard maintained by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO). PDF documents can contain links and buttons, form fields, audio, video, and business logic. They can be electronically signed and easily displayed on Windows or macOS using free Acrobat Reader DC software.

PDFs meet standards

Its PDF files meet ISO 32000 standards for electronic document transmission, including standards for special uses such as PDF/A for files, PDF/E for engineering, and PDF/X for printing. In addition, you can create PDFs that comply with a variety of accessibility standards to make the content easier for people with disabilities to use.

No need to print anything else

It's easy to sign a PDF electronically. Just use the Adobe Acrobat Reader app for mobile devices or the Adobe Sign app for mobile devices. Access your PDFs from any browser or operating system. To manage legally valid electronic or digital signature processes, try Adobe Acrobat DC or Adobe Sign.

You can scan documents and printed forms to save them as Adobe PDF for smart files that are easy to search, share and store. Adobe PDFs use optical character recognition (OCR) technology to let you edit and comment on scanned documents. More than a PDF viewer, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC is a complete PDF solution for creating, editing and converting PDF files into other formats.

A bit of history

In 1991, Adobe co-founder Dr. John Warnock started the revolution from print to digital with an idea he called “The Camelot Project”. The goal was to allow anyone to capture documents from any source, send electronic versions of those documents anywhere, and display and print them on any computer. In 1992, Camelot became the PDF format. Today, it is the file format that companies around the world trust.

Once called Adobe Acrobat Reader, with the release of version (6.0) Adobe Systems unified Acrobat eBook Reader and Acrobat Reader into a single application. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to use a separate program to enjoy the books. All the features for reading present in the old Acrobat eBook Reader are available in Adobe Reader.

Although very useful, it has been constantly criticized by everyone for demanding too much from the computer even though it is so simple, losing space to other PDF readers.

Adobe Reader (formerly known as Adobe Acrobat Reader) is software that allows a computer user to view, browse and print files in PDF format. This type of file is very common in general documentation (instruction manuals, handouts, eBooks). As it is cross-platform, it is available for different operating systems.
